One of the best ways to protect your child from sexual abuse is to develop and maintain a strong a healthy relationship with open communication. Parents should also talk with their children early and often about healthy boundaries and personal safety. Join the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to learn about some of NCMEC’s resources including our KidSmartz® program that can help parents learn more about child safety and give them tools to help have these critical conversations with the children in their lives.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Susan Britton joined the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2018. As the Prevention Program Manager, Susan is responsible for driving the implementation of NCMEC’s prevention education programs in line with current trends and best practices in the fields of child development and protection. In this position Susan also works with nonprofit organizations, law enforcement groups, victim service providers, and other local and national stakeholders in the child protection field to develop and cultivate partnerships to further distribute and disseminate prevention education. Prior to working at NCMEC, Susan worked for nine and a half years at the Center for Alexandria’s Children in Alexandria, VA as the Director of Programs. In that role Susan oversaw the development of a primary community-based prevention program for young children and families and conducted forensic interviews of children.  Susan has an academic background in child development, trauma, child maltreatment, risk/resilience, and prevention programs. She has been fortunate to work and volunteer in a variety of early childhood prevention, intervention, and education programs. Susan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The College of William and Mary and a Master of Education degree in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University.
