HISTORY

The American Society for the Positive Care of Children (American SPCC) was established as a nonprofit 501(c) 3 charitable organization in July 2011, from the strong desire of one caring individual to make a difference in the lives of abused children in America. From its inception, the organization has focused on child advocacy, help resources, and educational and awareness programs for child abuse.
More than 80% of the U.S. population will experience direct or indirect effects of child abuse, maltreatment or neglect. You or someone you know has experienced or been impacted by childhood abuse. Child abuse knows no boundaries. It cuts across all socioeconomic, gender, geographic, national origin, religious and racial/ethnic segments of our country.
In 1866, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in New York City. In 1875, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was founded, also in New York City. American animals had an advocate nearly a decade before American children did. For whatever reason, the animal protection organization spread nationally, but the children’s organization did not.
American SPCC was founded to fill a void that exists in American society. By acting as a coordinating organizer, building and supporting an active, caring community and bringing together like-minded individuals, groups, agencies, and organizations. American SPCC gives a voice to the ‘voiceless’ – the abused, neglected, bullied and marginalized children of America.
Since our founding, we have reached hundreds of thousands of people seeking help. We have received input from youth, caregivers, teachers, policy makers, think tanks, law enforcement, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. Amazing people are joining our community every day.
