It was on a weekend when my cousin had to stay the night with me and my sisters. He was 16 and I was about 9. He slept in the living room with my brothers, then one night he came into my room and woke me up and asked if I wanted to play truth or dare. I told him yes, because I thought that the game would be fun. He then said truth or dare, I picked dare and he said I dare you to taste my privates. I was so scared. Then I thought, this is part of the game and when it was over he went back and laid down, and then I realized that it wasn’t part of the game and that my cousin had sexually molested me.
American SPCC believes that childhood should be fun for kids. A time to learn, be nurtured, and loved. Childhood shouldn’t hurt. But the harsh reality is that millions of children in America experience devastating childhoods, with long-term debilitating effects.
