American SPCC

With the support of our donors and volunteers, the American SPCC will implement programs designed to create awareness, visibility, and to educate the general public on the short and long-term effects of child abuse and neglect.     Listed below are some examples of our program  and funding initiatives.  If you have ideas for future programs, we would love to hear them.  You can email us at: info@americanspcc.org

THINK CAMPAIGN

THINK is a multi-dimensional awareness campaign incorporating the American SPCC website as a place for people to share their stories, post YouTube videos of their experiences of child abuse and provide support and inspiration, along with video messages from our spokesperson, Jo Frost. THINK will create greater visibility via billboards (Before You Act….”THINK”…. Stop Child Abuse Now), public service announcements will be aired on English and Spanish radio stations. Parents, caregivers and the general public will gain awareness of the importance of child abuse prevention.  By viewing the billboards and print materials, visiting our website and by hearing public service announcements, people will be reminded to THINK before they act, ultimately reducing the number of child abuse cases.

Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Child abuse directly or indirectly touches every household in the United States.  The need for a SME is paramount to steer an organization, guide and educate the public, with government based organizations and utilize media channels to effectively communicate facts and build awareness of child abuse, neglect and prevention across America.   SME resources are shared with community outreach organizations and the media to accurately inform past, current and potential occurrences of child abuse and related topics.

The Safe Child

The Safe Child is a nationwide online and community-based education program targeting parent education and individual parent responsibility to keep our children safe from abuse and neglect.  The broad goals of this program are to enlighten parents who will keep their children safe from abuse and neglect; create educational programs where parents learn about the need to use effective, non-violent discipline strategies for the benefit of their children; provide tools to children to build personal resilience against abuse, bullying and dating violence; and provide community education programs that help individuals to understand and be engaged when they witness abuse.

Advocacy

The American SPCC advocates for policies at the national, state and local levels that protect children and strengthen families.  The American SPCC partners with other child abuse prevention and intervention organizations to respond to emerging policy and program issues surrounding child abuse and prevention.

Our advocacy efforts are focused towards:

  • The Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • The child who is not heard or misrepresented
  • Those who have been impacted by child abuse
  • Mandatory reporting
  • The “Speak up to protect every abused kid act, 2011”
