Does reality T.V. promote child abuse?

I find it interesting that millions of Americans will watch reality TV shows that focus on family drama, with verbal, physical and mental abuse being tossed about like a baseball. Does anyone think about the short- or long-term affects of these actions, both to an adult but, more importantly, to a child? Why do we accept and glamorize such behavior? We’re foolish to think that our children won’t mimic these atrocities and why stop at verbal abuse; let’s punch or smack the person to really get our point across. Boys who witness domestic violence are twice as likely to abuse their own partners and children when they become adults. 30% of children who have been abused will abuse their children and the cycle will continue. How often have we heard: “ My dad used to beat me, and I turned out OK.” Why would anyone think that beating a child is OK? Every parent has a right to raise their children based upon their principles and values, but if abuse is part of that equation, don’t be surprised if your child turns to alcohol, drugs, or ends up in prison. Instead of watching TV about mobsters, maybe they can share a prison cell and live it first hand.
